Tarot for the 21st Century!

I have a question for all Tarot Practicioners. I'm sure it has as many answers as there are readers. But it is one to which we should all give some thought and have an answer for, even if that answer is only meaningful to ourselves.

How, in your opinion, does the Tarot work?

I think we are all part of and are connected to a universal consciousness and we have complete access to all the answers we need in our lives. The images on the cards help us tap into that wisdom and intuitive part of ourselves to find our answers. In short, I think Tarot is a tool for communicating with your higher self.
I think the Tarot works like a mirror. Everyone who looks at a Tarot card will see something different, something personal to them at the time. It also can works as a compass to point you in a certain direction, or to uncover issues that need to be addressed. Tarot is all about perception, what do you perceive?
Personally, I try not to think about how it works. I like the mystery of it, and as long as it keeps working, I am fine with it. For some people, tarot is nothing more than a deck of cards, for some it is a way of unlocking your innermost recesses, a way to understand yourself, and yet for some it is incredibly magical. If you believe that tarot is just a set of cards and that people can interpret any set of cards to fit any set of circumstances, that is what tarot will be to you. But for me (to finally answer your question), I believe tarot contains something magical still that cannot be explained. And as with anything magical, it loses its magic the moment you stop believing it. So to people who don't believe that tarot can make predictions: of course it can't. And for people who do believe that tarot can make predictions: of course it can. I believe it does all these things through you, so long as you don't limit yourself or the power of the tarot.
The images we see in our reality reflect back to us that which we have had a hand in co-creating. It is the language of the universe. Before the written word, there were images. If an image imparts recognition it stimulates memory of our experience and that communicates to our conscious and subconscious minds according to our personal experience and knowledge.

The tarot is not special in the language of images. Any picture can be utilized to communicate a thought, feeling or story. But it is not just two dimensional pictures that can tell us things about our reality. People who read signs, sticks, tea leaves etc. can also do readings on the nature of his reality.

The tarot cards are particularly representational of the story of a spirit entity who chooses to come to this galaxy and play the game of life and death and to incarnate on the earth over and over until the games end.

In the tarot, the royal road, as it is called, represents a world society that is ruled and influenced by a monarchy. (Kings and Queens) Even in what we consider to be a democracy, the earth is ruled and influenced by a monarchy. Life is a game, after all. The game of chess is a good example of the same game of life under a monarchy.

But the tarot is only part of the system of language and images that we see and create in the co-creation process. Consciousness creates with thought forms. Thought forms create images which manifest as reality.
