Tarot for the 21st Century!

In honor of Stevie Nicks new album "IN YOUR DREAMS" that was just released on 5/03/11, here is an article originally published in the August 2010 issue of "Positive Perspectives".   I have always been inspired by Stevie's music, she is a great performer live!

Last month I asked  you what inspires you.  The Goddess of Rock, Ms. Stevie Nicks, inspires me.  Stevie Nicks’ music has been a huge part of my life since I was a child.  I have all of her records and have seen her in numerous concerts both as a solo artist and with the band Fleetwood Mac.

My bad mood evaporates when I listen to a Stevie song.  Broken heart?  Play Stevie.  Lost a job?  Play Stevie.   She’s my go-to artist to pick up my spirits so I can start picking up the pieces.

Stevie writes most of her own music and lyrics—with a rare song thrown in written by another artist.  She’s a poet, she’s an artist and she’s a REAL singer- no lip synching from Stevie.

When I need a little inspiration, I put on her CD’s and play the songs that I know will give me that boost that I am looking for.   Enchanted, Rhiannon and Planets of the Universe are some of her songs that get me singing in the car or dancing around the house.    Each time I may start out with a different song, but I always end up playing my two favorite songs.  One of my all time favorite songs by Stevie is the Wild Heart:

“I run around like a spirit in flight,  Fearlessness is fearlessness, I will not forget this night.  Dare my wild heart.  Dare my wild heart .”

My other favorite is Edge of Seventeen:     “And I see you doing...what I try to do for me, with the words from a poet...and the voice from a choir… and a melody ...nothing else mattered”

Pure Stevie, these lyrics sum up what I might feel at different times in my life.  Find  a song that fits your life.   Go ahead, Rock a Little!   All songs copyrighted.

Stevie's new album is SOOOOOO good!  I recommend it to all Stevie fans.  The first single "Secret Love" is good, but I really really like "Wide Sargasso Sea" which was inspired by the same titled book.  "Annabel Lee" and "Soldier's Angel" are rocking numbers and "For What it's Worth" is a slower song that is very touching.

But I think my favorite song is "You May Be the One".  That may change after repeated listening, but for now it is!

I love the story of how "Edge of Seventeen" was titled.  Stevie was having a meal with Tom Petty and his wife, right around the  "Stop Dragging my Heart Around"  time. His wife had a heavy southern accent.  She related to Steve that she had met Tom "at the age of seventeen."  The southern drawl made it sound like "edge" instead of "age."

The song itself was written about Stevie's experiences with the death of her uncle.

Stevie has provided a lot of the soundtrack for my life- I'm right with you, Melinda.

Yes, she is so good to always tell you how she came up with her song ideas.   I agree about the "soundtrack of my life"!!!

Which are your favorites?
