Tarot for the 21st Century!
Since taking Bonnie Cehovet's meditation class last weekend on animal spirits and guides, I have been wondering how many of you know your animal totems. Animal Speak, a book by Ted Andrews, is like my bible. Whenever a bird, animal, and yes, even a snake, crosses my path in some way or another, I immediately go to the book and look up the message it is trying to give to me. There is also an Animal Speak tarot deck, as well as Animal Speak Runes, both of which I use. I even have a small pocket edition of Animal Speak to carry with me for a quick reference.
Two more decks that use the premise of animal totems and shapeshifting are the Shapeshifter Tarot, and the Animals Devine Tarot. Both are based on shamanism and our connection to nature.
How many of the members of this group are aware of the signs of nature that come in and out of your lives? How many refer to your inner knowledge, or the books and decks mentioned above to further understand the messages they bring?
Whether or not you read with any of these decks, from a collectors point of view, they are some of the most beautiful, nature inspired decks--a "must have" for any tarot reader who connects with the natural world and the beauty it holds.

Permalink Reply by Patti Phare-Camp on January 16, 2012 at 11:52am Huhm, I'm not as aware as I used to be...seems I've allowed a busy life to supersede time spent in nature. But for those of us who live with fur family and/or children we are still kept grounded by them...anyway I'm aware of my animal guides although I don't think about them very often anymore. How many of you are aware that our guides change with our spiritual/life/karmic changes? As we progress or digress through the stages of becoming complete/aware human beings our lessons change. As we face different challenges in our journey we need helpers most appropriate to the obstacle/lesson/karma... therefor one guide sees us through one assignment and another comes in to see us through the next.
Permalink Reply by Joanne Matthew on January 16, 2012 at 3:50pm Animal guides do come in and out of our lives, and all have a purpose. I, myself, went from having sheep as my main totem years ago, to the guide becoming a moose--quite a difference in the animals! I mentioned the book, Animal Spirits as being my bible, and it truly is. I don't think there is one day that goes by where I am not looking up an animal, a bird, an insect, or some other critter to see why it came into my life on that particular day, and what I need to look for because of it. I had an encounter this past summer with three large snakes, and to this day, I am still aware of what they told me and how it is affecting my life.
Even though you say you don't think about your animal guides very often anymore, I know that deep inside, you are very much aware--maybe not always outwardly, but you understand them, and subconsciously, I'm sure you are very much aware. Maybe we would have a better world if more people like you and I were aware of these messengers!
