Tarot for the 21st Century!

Eva Yaa Asantewaa recently posted a comment about giving some "intense" readings recently and noticing that her energy was not depleted as it might have been in her past when she "poured out so much."

>> How many of you feel your energy is depleted when reading for a client? What if you are in a public setting, such as a fair...how long can you go without feeling drained, if at all?

I know they tell me if you ground yourself correctly, you should not feel drained. But I think I would feel drained if I were running a yard sale all day, too! So I do bring LOTS of water. Once, after a particularly intense reading, I got up and took a walk to clear my head. I still end up trying to get lots of sleep before and after reading at a fair. And over time I have learned to read the cards without "total immersion" although I have to admit I still prefer it that way because I get more information to help the client.
Yes!!! The watering, feeding and care of the reader is essential, HaHa.

"total immersion" - Marcia, could you describe what this means to you?
Reading for a client isn't an issue for me. I'm more likely to end up ungrounded and spacey after several readings. So for that I must stay aware.

When we allow the information to come for the querant, rather than trying "to do" a reading, it makes a huge different in energy drain. If we simply get out of the way and allow, we aren't really investing our personal energy in the outcome--other than sitting in a chair for a long time. Remembering it isn't about us, but the information may help.

In a public setting I find it much more difficult not to be drained. When we open up to allow, sometimes others can take advantage of that and drain our energy for their own. I try to be aware of my energy, shielding etc, but sometimes when I'm deeply into work, I forget to block and then ZAP.

I also use crystals and stones to help keep my energy up and protected and to help with grounding and like Marcia water helps greatly.
Hi Lillie,

I too find it more free to support the client in working through the reading instead of feeling it all sits on my shoulders or is purely my responsibility to perform. I see myself more as the "midwife" or "Sacred Doula" for the client's process.

A few times a year I participate in huge psychic fairs (Body Mind Spirit, Oregon Country Fair, and others) and find myself feeling energized by the non-stop work with clients. I believe my unconscious habit is to create an energy barrier between my booth and the rest of the fair in order to better protect the intimate space with my clients. It is so automatic for me I don't notice I'm doing it until I consciously consider what I'm actually doing. This is a unique gift of mine. I can totally analyze where it comes from, but that's for a different topic, HaHa. I don't need candles or incense as tools to accomplish this effect. As readers, we each use the tools that best support our work. One size certainly does not fit all. You might notice that the clients who are drawn to your work also need those tools to support their experience in the reading.

With clients, I become transparent and energy can just pass through me without sticking or altering the supportive atmosphere I create. This is why I do not tire, or get emotionally drained by my work. Besides, I'm a naturally grounded gal, which has it advantages and disadvantages.

I get energized by my work for I love it so much and am happy to share this profound gift with others.

In Spirit,
Katrina
I just returned from my favorite event, Oregon Country Fair, where I sit outdoors in my lovely space in the woods, reading from 9 am to 8 pm with few breaks. By the end of the day I am surprisingly energized and feel so much in my element. By the third day I'm totally in the flow of the fair and have energy to dance all for hours.

Most of my Tarot clients are very interesting folks with dynamic challenges and opportunities explored in the readings. There are always the two or more individuals who seek me out for they have deeper, more psychological, or soul-retrieval issues. These are potentially draining for they take a great deal of awareness and caution. I noticed this year that my calm, yet alert, presence was maintained even during these sessions. Having 22 years of counseling experience, combined with the profound wisdom of Tarot, really comes through at these times.
