In the four of cups, a man ponders three of the cups, oblivious to the fourth being offered. It’s an alert to be aware of that offering (nice tie in with the Knight). And the third card is the Star, often representing hope, or the calm after the storm. In the context of these three cards, her open posture,…

Review: the Wizards Tarot

I am a fanatical enterer of Tarot contests and was fortunate enough to win theWizards Tarot in a contest run by Llewellyn on Twitter last month.  The deck was waiting for me when I got home from Jordan this weekend (hoorah!).  I confess:…

Chapter 2: Two Blondes Walk Into a Bar

It was nearly five o’clock, still light out.  She had time for a quick drink before dark.  Riga grabbed her suede jacket and ducked past her neighbor, old Mr. Chen’s martial arts studio.  She’d missed the last two classes and knew he’d be coming after her soon.

Riga took the stairs to the ground level, which had been leased to a billiard parlor – Riga’s default social life.  It served beer and cheap, airline-grade wine and Riga had taken to keeping her own stuff behind the…

Chapter 1: A Client Arrives

“I think my husband is trying to kill me.”

Tarot - It's Everywhere!

Casablanca Cartomancy

Summer Solstice, 2008: Marrakech, Morocco.

Noel Coward wrote that only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun.  Yet here I am, neither English nor mad, staggering about Marrakech’s pink-tinted Kasbah during the height of summer.  As above, so below: the heat from the cobblestones bakes the soles of my thin shoes; the noon-time sun broils my…

Exceeds Expectations

Last weekend I went to a Tarot study group with a focus on the esoteric. There were two other newbies to the group, and I could see that they were pretty lost by the esoteric approach, which is used more for meditation and inner growth. I doubt they'll be back - they left with expressions of relief... [read more]
