Tarot for the 21st Century!
Okay, so I looked at the Kickstarter campaignf or this deck and I wasn't able to contribute at that time...then, I get a post on Facebook through a friend, Inappropriate Tarot readings, and I found it absolutely hilarious. At this time, I have no idea that Inapporopriate Tarot readings is Darkana Tarot. So, I can be slow...
The Darkana is a deck that is created and self published by Janden Hale. It is primarily a black and white deck, with pops of color throughout. It has a very flexible paper, much like regular playing cards, and is about the standard size of a regular Tarot deck. I find the black with white lettering on the box to be striking, it is always catching my eye. The Darkana has a wicked sense of humor, and doesn't come with a litte white book. However, it does have keywords in the bottom left hand corner of each card. Another thing I like about the Darkana is the addition of XXII The BadAss:
I love this card! It really suits my personality lol...I asked the Darkana my customary "Will We Read Well Together?" that I always ask a new deck that I intend to read with:
The Death card is one of the first cards I ever saw from this deck and I love it, so I was thrilled to find it come up first in my reading...and it has been a bit different to read with the Darkana. The messages are very crisp and clear, and there is a funniness to them. The Wheel of Fortune I think is just a kick ass Wheel. Sometimes it can much like playing Russion Roulette lol...but, it also gives a sense of power in the situation. Although the Wheel turns as the Wheel Wills (Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time), we are not powerless and we have to remember that sometimes these horrible choices were consciously made. We may be at the mercy of time, but we can certainly choose how we spend it. Lastly the Page of Swords, the boy scout. I can't think of how many times I have given my scouts honor and that this card came up made me laugh out loud, a very wonderfully wicked sense of humor. The Darkana will always tell me the truth, whether it is the truth I want or not lol....
For anyone that is looking for something a little off the beaten Tarot path, the Darkana is for you. It is easy to handle and worth having in your collection. The Darkana also may not be for the absolute beginner because the imagery isn't traditional RWS, and it may be good to have some basics. But a beginner could use this deck because the keywords are in the bottom left hand corner, I think it's a great deck for anyone that wants it. I have really enjoyed reading with the Darkana and it is in my working decks list.
