There Is Something Rotten In The State Of Facebook

Mary shared this great article from ED DALE'S BLOG on FB Pages:
http://www.eddale.co/facebook/there-is-something-rotten-in-the-stat...

Here's my response ...it was too long to put in the comments:

Awesome article! Thx Mary.... This is why I LOVE Twitter ...everyone who wants to get your posts gets them! Of course, when you have a lot of people you are Following, the feed goes zipping by.

Most people don't take in account the time of day most of their Followers are "online, on Twitter", AND international Followers. BufferApp.com really comes in handy. You can find out when the majority of your Followers are on Twitter! Usually the best times to post are 7 - 8am and early evening.

But you should still post all day long as well ...once again, BufferApp.com to the rescue! You can meter out your posts, telling BufferApp exactly what times to send them out - you can preload ten posts at a time FREE, or get a premium account with them for unlimited.

Plan out your posts! You should also load up your BufferApp before you go to sleep at night - remember it's the middle of the next day in Australia, NZ - we have an international Following these days...

Many of us go to Twitter and post an update and think, there! Ive told the world ...no way folks. You have to send it out multiple times and different times of the day/night and peak times are different on the weekend than during the week...

I am coming up on 10,000 Followers but only a tiny fraction will "see" a post I make right now. You ALSO need to be continuously adding new Followers to your Twitter.....

That's a lot to say about Twitter on a post about Facebook, but you see, all these social media platforms work together. It's true, FB is actually CHARGING for you to reach your whole following on your FB Page ...what the article doesn't touch on is that your FB Profile reaches much more than your Page and can be used to supplement your Page, that your Page on FB is still better than a website (we need to do a class on why) and about name/email capture......

This article is referring to, if I make a post on my FB Page, it only reaches a % of my audience, as FB is "metering" it and trying to make money off of us (again). Remember, they are publicly traded now and have to show a profit. I say it's still a great platform to post on and has more potential than your website.

....if someone goes to your website, to read a post or look around or get info, remember, they have to COME BACK, to see any future posts. So what does a website owner do to keep in touch with someone who comes to their website? They get their name and email address, and build a LIST.

The people who are complaining about building up a tribe on FB of 1000s, and now they don't reach them all, didn't take the time to "BUILD THEIR LIST". Instead of just getting "Likes" on their FB Page, they should have been capturing their name/email as well, in exchange for something you "give away" free to your visitors...

Run a contest, offer a videos series, a series of free classes, free podcast series, a report, etc ...the price of entry, a "Like" on your FB Page and their email/name.

This shouldn't be an either/or proposition. Let's not "throw the baby out with the bathwater". Unlike your website out there on the web, if they visit your FB Page and "Like" it, you are still reaching a % of those folks (automatically), vs your website. On your website, 0%. Unless you capture their info (email/name) and you can do this ON YOUR FB PAGE too! The LIST is still key!

I also have an App for capturing their email/name FROM Facebook, so it's a "better" quality name/email address than if you just ask them to put in their name and email in a capture box. Plus less and less people are filling out those boxes. This App does it with the press of a button. And it is key that you tie this to some offer your are giving them in exchange....

The other two factors the article doesn't mention is using your FB Profile to supplement your Page and using Groups on FB. Joining a Group in your niche, or creating one, is another key.

EVERYONE sees your posts in a Group. So getting people to not only "Like" your FB Page, but to join your Group is important. If the people that are complaining about FB Pages had simply created a Group for the 1000s of "Likes"/visitors, who are now NOT seeing their posts on their FB Page, they would still be able to reach ALL of them by posting on their Group!

I post to my FB Pages, but also cross-post on my Profile and Groups. The FB Page for me, is more like a static website now. It's were information is kept. Then I encourage people from my FB Groups, Profile and Twitter to go get the info from there. I, at the same time, encourage people from my FB Page to joint the Group(s), and from Twitter.....

So take NuLife Radio. We post videos, articles and links that we discuss on the radio shows on the NuLife Radio FB Page. We then encourage listeners to go to the Page and find anything we have been discussing during the shows.

We also encourage them to join our NuLife Radio FB GROUP. If they just "Like" the FB Page, they won't see all the posts, but if they join the Group, they can join in on the conversations and ALSO get our informational posts.

As the article mentions, CONTENT IS STILL KING! It is essential to create your own content, then sprinkle in "borrowed" content, by linking to a great article, post or video. Videos and pictures are taking over. People much prefer to watch a video or even listen to an audio than "read" a long article or post....
